Decommited from UVA and OV'ing here.

Virginia received some bad news on the recruiting front today.

Alexandria (Va.) St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes defensive end Ryan Thaxton has decommitted from UVa, he informed Wahoos247.

The Wahoos now have 21 commitments in the 2017 class.

Thaxton’s decommitment is a tough one for Bronco Mendenhall and Co., who say the 6-foot-5, 245-pounder as a potential early impact guy for a team that needs help on the defensive line.

According to Thaxton, Virginia is not out of the running for his signature.

"They are still in consideration," started Thaxton. "I liked the staff a lot the program is on the rise it's real cool it's close to home and all but while I was committed I wasn't allowed to take any visits so I wanted to be able to take my visits because it's a big choice.

"So, I wanted to be able to make the right one."

Thaxton plans to take official visits to both UVa and Tennessee before making his final decision.

"I have a official set for December 2nd at UVa and December 13th at Tennessee."

Taylor's been ready.

Taylor still weighs less than 250 lbs. While he seems to be a good pass rusher off the edge, I am not sure he can take on an OT and make a tackle at the line of scrimmage. I also realize that Barnett has been concentrating on sacks and has recently run himself out of position for making tackles on the inside of the OT position.

Dude is over 250 and it's pure muscle. This is from a 210-220 high school kid that also played WR...well. Understand your skepticism...I just don't share it. Gonna be special IMO.

arden key is 240on a good day and rushes the passer like a monster so who cares. Plays the run fine as well. at this point just play the kid. its not like its gonna be any worse

I understand you're comment, but like someone said he came in at right around 215 and was a DE/WR in high school. Getting to a premier DE level in the SEC will take some time. He's now at 240. He'll be a redshirt sophomore next season and will likely weigh 255~ and be stronger as well. I think he's one of the most talked about players on the defensive side of the ball (Barnett and coaches laud his praises). I'm fairly certain Taylor, Phillips, Kongbo, Mixon, McDaniel, A. Smith will be able to figure out a way to replace Barnett. With any injury luck we can keep them all at DE, since we'll have Vickers, Tuttle, Kmac, Johnson, Picou, Gaddy, Crosby and Bain in the middle.

There is no replacing Barnett. He's probably the best DE to play at UT and one of the best to ever play at the college level. It will have to be a much better team effort next year because our defense honestly has been pretty bad even with a gamechanger at DE.

I love DB dude is a beast, but when you have only one playmaker on the line it allows offenses to dictate more to what they want to do by sliding protection and schemes, if we can develop two good DEs in the off season, the DLINE as a whole actually has the chance to be more productive, DB and Maggit > no one and DB

I actually think this is a very informed & nice post coming from you buddy. Way to go! :good!:

I don't think he really meant replacing Barnett. He was saying bringing/playing people that will at least maintain the type of Barnett play. Of course, we can't replace Barnett. One more sack & he can say he's another Reggie White. :good!:

Barnett is a really good player but there was one far and away better than him.

I have to agree with you because The Minister of Defense wasn't only a sack man. He was also a run stopper as well. Having said that, Barnett has become a very nice run stopper as well.
